AFDCS Elects Four To Its Board

Members of the American First Day Cover Society have elected four people to its Board of Directors for three-year terms that will begin January 1, 2020.

Here are the vote totals:

• Lloyd de Vries, New Jersey, 86;
• Tom Peluso, New York, 85;
• Jim Tatum Jr., Washington, 84;
• David Peterman, Wisconsin, 71; and
• James Hogg, Florida, 70.

De Vries, Peluso, Tatum and Peterman were elected to the Board. Peluso and de Vries are incumbents. Tatum and Peterman are new to the Board.

There were 110 ballots submitted, all valid. There were also write-in votes for Mark Goodson, Eric Wile, Mark Gereb and Henry Scheuer.

De Vries is President of the AFDCS. Peluso is Awards Chairman.

De Vries thanked Elections Committee chair Otto Thamasett and committee members Neal Parr and Foster Miller, all members of the Robert C. Graebner Chapter of the AFDCS, for their work in counting the ballots in this year's election, and the Nominating Committee chaired by D.A. Lux for recruiting the candidates.

He also thanked retiring Directors Mark Goodson and Bob Lewin for their many years of service on the AFDCS Board. Goodson also chairs the Philip H. Ward Committee for the best first day cover articles each year, and is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Lewin serves as Chair of the Complaints & Ethics Committee.

Four seats on the AFDCS Board of Directors are elected each year for three-year terms, beginning January 1. In addition to the 12 elected directors, the president, the editor of the official journal First Days, and the general counsel serve on the board ex officio, if not elected to the board in their own right.

The current board, plus directors who will be seated on January 1, will now vote for the elected officers (president, executive vice president, first vice president, recording secretary, treasurer) and a chairman of the board, to serve one-year terms.

AFDCS directors are not compensated nor reimbursed for their travel expenses. The board meets annually at the society's annual show and convention, which in 2020 will be the Americover component of Great American Stamp Show, on August 20-23 in Hartford, Conn., and conducts business via other means throughout the year.
