Paul L. Hubartt, 92, of Warren, Indiana, passed away June 9, 2012. He was a commercial artist all his life. For fourteen years--1952 to 1966--he was the cachet designer for Cap and Ida Fluegel. His first cachet design for Fluegel Covers was the 1952 NATO issue (Sc 1008). His last design for Fluegel was the Mary Cassatt issue (Sc 1322).
He wrote several articles related to Fluegel covers. The most informative was “Fourteen Years of Fluegel Covers” published in the May/June 1981 issue of First Days. For many years he served as our AFDCS calligrapher. In 1986 he was honored by becoming designer of the AFDCS Court of Honor First Day Cover number 6.
Survivors include his wife, a son, daughter, brother, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
